Over the past year I have begun to not just read passages of scripture each day, but I’ve also begun to write them out. I don’t even care how legible my writing is…I just want to capture something of the rhythm and flow of the passage, something of the meaning that goes way beyond mere words. You begin to get a sense of not only the words, but of the humanity behind those words, of the deep cry of our souls as we write and pray those words.

I’ve written out passages that are meaningful to me, and passages that I want to become more meaningful to me. I’ve also written out the prayers we pray over and over again. Come Holy Spirit! Is one of those prayers. And written out this way seems to convey some of that meaning to me.

Presented this way reminds me of the ancient scrolls the original passers were recorded on and read from.
