This group of paintings is very personal for me. These are a few of the people and places that have shaped me, spoken into my life and encouraged me to be the person I am. Some of this work represents how I’ve processed my father’s death over the past eighteen months. There have been many more pieces I’ve worked on along the way, so this is just a sampling. One of the ways I’ve learned to process my deeper emotions is by slowing down enough to render the person or place who is meaningful to me, and allow God to speak deeply into my soul through the process.
While I absolutely love portrait work, it’s also much more demanding, and I haven’t had the stretches of uninterrupted time to devote to it for a few years. Capturing the inner essence of a person on a two-dimensional surface is no small accomplishment.
